TEMPORARY RESIDENCE VISAS

Who is this visa for?
Temporary Residence visas are for the entry, on a temporary basis, of people who can contribute to the economic, cultural and social development of the Australian community.
Temporary Residence visas which may be applied for at the Australian Embassy Moscow are:
• Subclass 410 (Retirement) visa.
• Subclass 411 (Exchange) visa.
• Subclass 415 (Foreign Government Agency) visa.
• Subclass 418 (Educational) visa. 418 applicants may also apply for 456 Business (Short Stay) or 457 Business Long Stay (Sponsored) visas.
• Subclass 419 (Visiting Academic) visa.
• Subclass 421 (Sport) visa. Non-elite 421 visa applicants should apply for 456 Business (Short Stay) or 457 Business (Long Stay) visas.
• Subclass 423 (Media and Film Staff) visa. Media representatives may also apply for 456 Business (Short Stay) and 457 Business Long Stay (Sponsored) visas. Please note film staff should continue to apply for 423 (Media and Film Staff) visas.
• Subclass 426 (Domestic Worker – Diplomatic/Consular) visa.
• Subclass 427 (Domestic Worker – Overseas Executive).
• Subclass 428 (Religious Worker) visa.
• Subclass 442 (Occupational Trainee) visa.
• Subclass 461 (New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship) visa
Other temporary residence visas can only be applied for in Australia.

Some Temporary Residence visas require approved sponsorship. Please read the application form carefully to determine whether this applies to your visa subclass and to identify what other requirements apply.
Document checklist
The following is a list of documents which should be submitted when you apply for these visas.
o form 147, signed by the applicant, with all questions answered. For copies of the 147 form please visit the DIAC website;

o visa application charge;

o a recent passport photograph of all applicants;
o a signed valid international passport or, if you are unable to provide the original document, photocopies of every page (including blank pages). Please ensure that there is at least one page available for the visa label;
o a fully completed and signed ‘Passport Return Authority’. If you wish to arrange for a courier to collect your passport, you will be responsible for all arrangements and associated costs;

o any previous passports you have held, or copies if the original passports are not available;
o certified copies of all birth, marriage and divorce certificates of all persons included in the application;
o if you have included a child under 18 years of age in your application and any person with custody of the child (such as the other parent) is not travelling with the child, please see “Additional requirements for children under 18 years”.

o evidence of approved sponsorship if applicable.
o if you are over 16 years of age and your proposed stay exceeds 12 months, you are required to provide a police clearance certificate. Please note that subclass 442 (Occupational Trainee) is usually exempt from the requirement to obtain a penal clearance.

o documents which explain why you are applying for the particular type of temporary visa. For example, if applying for a sport visa, you may wish to provide evidence of participation in similar international competitions, if applying for a visiting academic visa you may wish to provide evidence of your qualifications and experience and if applying for a media & film staff visa you may wish to provide evidence of work in this field and similar previous travel.

Processing times
The average processing time for temporary visas is 8 weeks. However, it is important to note that processing times vary, so applicants and sponsors/inviters are advised to lodge applications well in advance of their planned travel.
